One Plus One by JoJo Moyes Review

Jojo Moyes

So I decided to read book #92 for 2014 this weekend. I had said I would read this last week, but obviously another book caught my eye first. Most of the readers out there know how it goes. You just never know what will catch your eye. All in all, I really liked this book. I had read Jojo Moyes’ other book Me Before You a while back. I had really enjoyed that book and decided to give this one a try. This book is a heartfelt family story with a bit of romance for good measure.

The start was a bit slow for me. This is usually the case when characters have to develop a bit. Sometimes it takes a bit to get used to some of the British vocabulary too. Plus the storyline was good enough to keep me going. By page 100 I was wrapped up in the characters and I knew I needed to find out what happened.

I absolutely adored Tanzie…I relate to the little “maths” girl. I myself have a masters in mathematics and currently work as an education data analyst. So I truly found the math and algorithm references later on in the story refreshing. For those non-math people out there, no worries it doesn’t dominate or deter from the story whatsoever. There is also an everyday working single mom, a computer guy, and a goth boy to round it all up.

I would highly recommend this book. It has a great narrative element taken from four different character’s point of views. Jojo Moyes did an excellent job transitioning from one character to another. I have read other books where this strategy affected the flow of the book, glad this wasn’t the case in One Plus One.

Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire Review

This weekend I read Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire and I loved it!  I have been a huge fan from the start of this series.  The first book, Beautiful Disaster, is still one of my all time favorite bad boy romance books.  I fell in love with the Maddox family from the start back in the summer of 2012.  I had been looking forward to reading Trenton’s story and it did not disappoint.  Beautiful Oblivion

I will not go into the story much as I don’t want to spoil any of the interesting details of the book and ruin the experience for the readers.  What I can say is that this is a romance with all the bad boy characteristics.  It’s the kind of book that makes you second guess yourself.  How could I want them together?  Are they good for each other?  Is she too good for him, or he too good for her?  In the end I adored the characters, the love scenes were just right.  I have read many books with great storylines whose over the top sex scenes cause me to cringe a bit.  Catholic school upbringing can do that to a girl…LOL.

All in all I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a great romance.  I would recommend you read Beautiful Disaster first if you haven’t already.  This book does give tidbits here and there on Travis’ story.  There are also follow up books Walking Disaster and Beautiful Wedding.  I love them all!

If you’ve read the book please leave a comment.  I would love to see what you thought of this
