eSalon Hair Coloring Experience

I recently received products from eSalon to try for free through BzzAgent.  They included a two step process permanent dye.  If you would like to try it out make sure to click on my link to receive your first month 50% off.  http://u.bzz.com/sakzi.  I had a few issues as I placed my order, one being an item on backorder.  They quickly resolved the situation by giving me a credit and including an extra bonus item.  They get 5 stars on customer service.

I have been dyeing my hair for quite a while due to my excessive grey hair.  I go to the salon two times a year and my husband helps apply my hair color in between.  When I signed up with eSalon they had an extensive survey to identify the best color for me.  They asked questions about current color, natural color, and color wanted.  When I received my kit it had a color number to identify my individualized color.

The shipment was received with all the items needed to color my hair.  The box included the two step dye, for roots and ends.  They also included a perfect match kit with packets of shampoo, conditioner, stain guard, stain remover, and two sets of gloves.

I also order a dyeing kit that included a timer, bowl, brush, and clips.  I’m so glad, it made sectioning so much easier.

I had been using the foam hair color for a while and Mike found this dye a little more stressful.  We loved the stain guard which decreased the worry about any embarrassing color dripping on my forehead.  He applied the first color to the roots section by section and then we set the timer.  Then Mike applied the section color to the ends and we set the timer again.  I loved the detailed instructions on how to ensure the best application and color preservation.  Here is a picture before I used eSalon.

I will be ordering my next color in November and I will be calling the colorist to get some advice.  My grey is really reluctant and I find with all products at home and in the salon the grey eventually comes through.  This color did a great job and I know I loved the red tones.  I felt the dual color helped to ensure that the color looked more natural. Below is a picture of my color after, sorry for the bit of frizz this was taken before I used my straightener.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free.  Regardless, the opinions included in this post are 100% my own.

Vacation in a Box

Vacation in a Box

Escape monthly’s slogan is “Vacation in a box.” Each month they announce their destination and curate a box which includes full-size luxury products, food items, travel guides (full box only), and other items related to the month’s destination. Each month you also have the opportunity to win a vacation to the destination of the month!  They are now offering the regular Escape box with 8-10 items for $49.95 and a Mini Escape box which has 4-5 items for $24.95.  Use LONDON to receive 20% off your subscription for life and pay only $39.96.  The box ships via USPS within 3 days of the15th of each month. October’s destination is London.

First Look

First Look

This is the first month with the new box! The chevron tissue paper looks great and they include a brochure with details on the destination of the month and the items included.  Below you can see a view of all the items that were included in the September Puerto Rico Box!

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico

Every Escape Monthly box includes a guide for the month’s destination.  This guide is not included with the Escape Mini.  For Puerto Rico they included a Moon handbook to San Juan Vieques & Culebra which retails on their Amazon for $13.22.  This is usually the guide included in the Escape box.  I visited San Juan about 13 years ago. It’ll be nice to share with Mike and see if he’d like to visit!

SweetTreats

SweetTreats

This month’s there was a sneak peek hinted to sweet coconut treats! The Dulzura coconut pineapple bites are individually wrapped ($3.75).  These treats are made from shredded coconut and remind me of a Mexican coconut candy roll .  There was also a small bag of Isleño plantane chips ($3).  I haven’t tasted these yet but I’m looking forward to it.

More treats

There were also some additional treats included. There were 4 ounces of Yaucono ground coffee which is available online for $3.25.  This will be used in our office since we don’t have a traditional coffeemaker at home.  The little bottle is a small Mi Madre Pique ($2.99).  I found the following information online: In Puerto Rico, pique (hot sauce), is as common a condiment as ketchup is on the mainland. The kioskos (food stands) that are throughout the islands usually have 2 or 3 fresh varieties for your frituras (fried foods). Made with whole garlic, peppers and peppercorns then marinated in vinegar over a period of time, these piques are hot and delicious. Mi Madre is made locally in Puerto Rico and packed with flavor, this pique is great on everything from the lightest veggies to the heartiest steak.

Additional

Additional

The additional items included a coconut scented candle, a small maraca key chain, and a coque frog pin.  Although the maraca and pin are kind of cute and interesting I’m not sure I value them as highly as the brochure.  The Caribbean Vela will definitely be used and retails for $5.  The pin says it retails for $9 and I found it listed for $3.

The September box was not my favorite, yet I loved the nostalgia receiving these items. This box had a value of about $35, not the best valued box thus far.  I will be looking at the mini box and may switch next month.   Sign up soon before they ship out the London box.

Thursday Thoughts

I’m linking up with Jen over at Ramblings of a Suburban Mom for Thursday Thoughts today!

~ We picked up my iPhone 6 on Friday and I’ve been adjusting to the change in size.  Screen definitely is noticeably larger!  Hoping to receive a case as a belated birthday gift.  I’m also thinking of writing a post on my experience with the new iPhone 6 and the new iOs 8.

~ This weekend will be so much fun…my Dad, his wife, and some friends drive in on Friday from Dallas! Haven’t seen them since Christmas and I really miss them.  They rented a house on South Padre Island and it will mean relaxing on the beach on and off for two weeks for Mike and I.  Plus I get to continue celebrating my birthday.

~ Saw the finale for Big Brother last night. I was very impressed with the strategy this year. No big surprise for me in the finale though. Won’t say more in case you haven’t watched it yet.

~ I posted the FabFitFun spoilers, can’t wait to see which items I receive on Tuesday.  The birthday celebrations continue!!  If you are on the fence or don’t want to be surprised check out my post.  When you order make sure to choose a deal TRYFF for $10 off or FRUITWATER to receive a free water infuser.

~ We had some more rain this weekend, instead of writing my pending book reviews I had to read another book…LOL.  Sorry everyone I’m just trying to sneak in as much reading as I can when weather is like this.  I finished the Birchbox Bookclub pick for October Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

I was able to foresee where the story line was headed.  I still found a few surprises and clarification on how and why which kept me going.  I may read her other books soon.  This one had been on my TBR list for almost 2 years.  Thanks Birchbox for the motivation, plus the movie is out pretty soon too.

Gone Girl

~ My  PopSugar Must Have September box review should be posted this weekend.  I had to move my pictures to an external hard drive when I switched phones.  I need to retrieve them and work has been a bit busy.

~ I will be completing the 5-hour Energy Smiley mission.  It’s really nice that they partnered with Beyond Breast Cancer for a special edition bottle.  The sample will be in pink lemonade flavor.  I will be sharing this with a friend who’s mom just completed her chemo for breast cancer recently.

I also received my Chapstick Hydration Lock Smiley Mission kit this week.  Excited that I received the Day and Night.  I will be preparing a video on what I think of the product.

~My Escape Monthly Puerto Rico box should have mailed out today.  Can’t wait to see what they include and They also have new boxes to make it easier to determine if you won the trip. I’m also receiving my Urthbox today or tomorrow.  I received the Conscious Box for September today.  I’ve decided not to continue subscription…check out my review this weekend to see why.

Can’t wait for cool weather to start brewing my favorite Teavana Pumpkin Spice Brulee Tea.  What is your go to beverage when the temps start to drop?

A. Tucker’s Five Ways to Fall and Colleen Hoover’s Ugly Love.  All of them were absolutely fabulous. I will try to post a weekly blurb on the books I’ve read.  Individual reviews just don’t seem to come together for me lately.

Wal-Mart Fall Beauty Box Review

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate/referral links.

Fall Box

Fall Box

Wal-Mart had a fall beauty box that cost only $5 for shipping.  There was a lot of questions out there on whether this was a scam or not.  Definitely not! I was excited to receive my box today.  They did not send any tracking information so this was a great surprise.  Contents seem similar to the pictures they posted on their site.

Fall Box Contents

Fall Box Contents

There were two moisturizers included in the Fall box.  The first was Oil of Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting moisturizer which retails for $21 for 1.7 oz.  This is a cream that you apply to your forehead and other fine line wrinkle problem areas.  The second was L’oreal Revitalift triple power moisturizer which retails for $19.97 for 1.7 oz.  This cream claims to hydrate deeply and provide a radiant complexion.

Moisturizers

Moisturizers

The box also included a couple of toiletry items.  There is a foil packet of Clear Scalp and Hair Beauty Therapy for damage and color repair of the shampoo and conditioner.  I’m not a big fan of the foil packets so not my favorite item.  The large size shampoo or conditioner costs $6.98 for 21.9 oz.  The Secret clinical strength invisible solid was a great item for me.  I use Degree clinical strength on a daily basis and have been wanting to try the Secret antiperspirant/deodorant.   The cost is $7.92 for this full size item and more than pays for the $5 I paid in shipping.

Toiletries

Toiletries

The perfume sample included in the Fall box was for Juicy Couture Couture eau de Parfum and I was glad it was a spray.  The fragrance is not too sweet or musky and I was surprised that a $27 perfume would smell this good.  I think my niece will love this one.  The Covergirl Continuous color lipstick was in a very nice shade for fall for only $4.94.  I’m thinking of trying it out myself.  I have been wearing gloss for a while after discovering Korres.  I used to only wear lipstick and I hated gloss, had only been exposed to sticky gloss.  Maybe it’s time to try some lipstick again.

Beauty and Scents

Beauty and Scents

This box had an incredible value of $26.50 and only cost $5 for shipping.  Not bad for two full size items, two deluxe samples, and two small samples.  This box provides an opportunity to try products that are available at an affordable price.  Plus any items you don’t use can be shared without feeling like you wasted your money on your box.  Can’t wait to see what they include in their Winter box.  If you haven’t signed up yet check out their site http://beautybox.walmart.com.  The company that handles the billing and shipping is Brandshare, that is what will appear on your credit card bill.

Ipsy September Review

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate/referral links.

Ipsy is a monthly subscription that curates the box based on your profile responses and reviews.  This beauty bag is only $10 a month for 5 samples and includes a cute bag too.  The signature hot pink bag in my mailbox has made me smile!

Hot Pink

Hot Pink

This month’s bag is a metallic bag with studs, perfect for the #StreetStyle theme.  I will be gifting a few items from the bag this month, even so the value of the bag is really great.  Glad I get to enjoy new items and share with my niece.

September

September

The Pacifica Natural Waterproof Eye Pencil in fringe.  This is a nice bronze shade eyeliner.  I don’t use eyeliner very often, not sure if I’m keeping this one yet.

Cailyn Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss: The lip gloss does tint well and has no flavor. I received the “Basic Instinct” shade which is a bit peachy pink.  This is the full size which retails for $19.

NYX Nude Hot Singles eye shadow: This shade (asphyxiation) is really not my type of shade $4.50.  Disappointed to receive an eye shadow two months in a row.  This one definitely goes to my niece.

Crown Infinity Shadow Crease Duet brush: I love this item! Glad I received this brush, can’t wait to try it out.  These are on sale right now for $6.99.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair: Deep conditioning mask for damaged hair.  I will definitely try this item and the natural ingredients are a definite plus. Item retails for $26 for 5.25 oz.

The August glam bag was a great value around $37 in products and samples for only $10.  Plus you receive 10 points for every item you review and 100 for the initial signup.  You can redeem the points for products.  Right now they have 5 items available for 1000 points and the 500 point item sold out rather quickly.  I highly recommend this subscription, great value!  Can’t wait to see my October glam bag.

The will keep you posted on any October spoilers as they are released! If you are not  subscribed yet please use my referral link so I can earn more ipsypoints. http://www.ipsy.com/r/ijhs.
